I heard about this decades ago & have used it very effectively many times. It works much much MUCH faster if started at the first sign of sniffles or other problems rather than waiting until symptoms are full blown, though it usually really helps even then.
Since I’m not a doctor, I’m not advising you to do this, only telling you what I do. At the first sign of any respiratory or other infectious illness, I take 6000 mg (6 g) of high quality Vitamin C powder/granules. If I don’t have diarrhea in an hour, I increase dosage by 2000 mg & take 8000 mg of Vitamin C. I keep doing this every hour (increasing dosage by 2000 mg), until I do have diarrhea.
What that tells me is that my body has now had more Vitamin C than it can use. Until diarrhea, the body is quickly using all the Vitamin C to help the immune system work as effectively as it can. Diarrhea is the body’s signal that you’re supplying more than your body can use.
Therefore, my next dose will NOT be in 1 hour, but rather in 4 hours, as this is about how long it typically lasts in the body. In 4 hours from the last dose, I’ll take 2000 mg LESS than whatever that last dosage was. For example, if 10,000 mg gave me diarrhea, then 4 hours after taking the 10,000 mg, I’ll take 8000 mg.
If that new dosage does NOT give me diarrhea, then I’ll continue taking it every 4 hours, or 3 times a day while awake, until it does. This could be for one dose, for one day, for one week or longer – there’s no danger of unknowingly taking too much because as soon as I take more than my body can use, it lets me know rather definitively! I’ve known people who took 12,000 mg 3 times a day for weeks to heal the symptoms of severe illness, without ever having that reaction.
When diarrhea does happen within an hour or so of taking the Vitamin C, again I drop the dosage by 2000 mg, then continue with that dosage every 4 hours or 3 times a day, and keep taking it until diarrhea happens again. At that point I drop the dosage again & follow the same procedure.
At 2000 mg 3 times per day, when/if diarrhea occurs, I cut it down to 1000 mg. every 4 hours. When diarrhea occurs, then I go to twice per day. If diarrhea happens then I go to once per day.
For me & most people I’ve talked with or read about who are basically healthy, 1000-2000 mg of a high quality Vitamin C per day is a great benefit to the body & does not cause diarrhea. It’s most beneficial to take it twice per day unless ill, since the body uses its store of Vitamin C within about 4 hours. If I’m feeling healthy, however, I tend to take 2000 mg once per day & that works well for me.
When diarrhea doesn’t happen at whatever dosage I’m currently taking, then I know that amount is what my body is using to keep me healthy. If unsure whether I need more or not, I just up the dosage as indicated & follow this procedure. Giving my body all the Vitamin C it can use without causing diarrhea usually kicks out a cold, allergies, or sinus problems within 24 hours.
The formula is simple: 6000 to start; up by 2000 each hour until diarrhea; wait 4 hours & take a dose that is 2000 mg. LESS than the last one; take it every 4 hours or 3 times per day until diarrhea; keep reducing using this protocol until I find the first continued dose that does NOT cause diarrhea. That becomes my daily maintenance dose of Vitamin C.
Of course, if you know how to accurately muscle test (kinesiology), you can just ask what is the highest dose of Vitamin C that is beneficial for you that will NOT cause diarrhea. Then find out how often & for how long it’s helpful to take that dose. Remember to also check for the following dosages & if there is a maintenance dose of Vitamin C that is helpful for you. And most importantly, once the physical symptoms are addressed, I go inside to find out what brought on these symptoms – it’s almost always an emotional, mental, or spiritual issue that predisposes the body to illness. If you’d like help clearing up those issues, just call or email for a Free 15 minute consult of how I may best assist you.
